Entering awards is an excellent way to get your business or brand noticed, not only within the industry sector but also amongst a wider audience, including potential visitors seeking to come to the Isles of Scilly. By the very fact that we enter member businesses into awards puts us on the tourism map as a destination of quality.
Last year, in 2013, businesses from the islands entered the Cornwall Tourism Awards for the first time – ever. The Islands’ Partnership invited Scilly businesses to take part and helped eight of them to write and submit their application forms. Four businesses were shortlisted and went forward to attend the gala dinner at the Headland Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall in November.
The New Inn on Tresco received a Bronze award, St Martin’s Dive School earned a Silver, and Juliet’s Garden Restaurant & Bar on St. Mary’s won a Gold Award. The Hell Bay Hotel on Bryher also won a Gold award and went on to be represented at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in May this year where is was “Highly Commended” in the category for Small Hotel of the Year.
This year, we have already helped four more businesses put forward submissions for the 2014 to the Cornwall Tourism Awards and we wait to hear if they have been successful in being shortlisted.
