The Cornwall (and Isles of Scilly) Tourism Awards for 2016/2017 are now open - and businesses across the islands are invited to enter. The deadline for entries is 12th June.
2016 sees new awards for Glamping, for individual Self Catering properties and a widening of the Dog Friendly category. There are also criteria changes for the Attraction, Small Hotel and B&B awards. Other categories include Spas and Wellbeing, Active & Sporting experience, Artistic, Cultural & Learning Experience, Cafes, Pubs, Restaurants, B&Bs, Hotels, Attractions, Business Tourism, Holiday Parks, Customer Service, Accessibility, Tourist Information and Sustainability.
Another development this year as a result of business feedback is the shortening of entry forms, reflecting the fact that most of the judging is based on visits.
Last year, the Isles of Scilly was represented by Hell Bay hotel and Tresco Leisure Spa. Whilst the Leisure Spa won a Bronze award on its first attempt, Hell Bay, which has entered the Cornwall Tourism Awards for a number of years won Gold and went to represent Scilly at the national VisitEngland awards. Previous accolades have also been given to Scilly Seal Snorkelling, Juliet's Garden and Peninnis Farm Glamping.
"This is a great opportunity for our businesses on Scilly to demonstrate real excellence in their fields and to help us fly the flag for Scilly on a broader regional scale," says David Jackson, Islands' Partnership Executive Director. "We also know that winning awards and accolades have a positive impact on businesses. Customers expect ever higher standards of service and quality; it is important that Scilly strives to improve and continues to be recognised for quality and high standards of service."
If you're interested in entering the awards, please do get in touch... as previous entrants will tell you, the IP is very happy to help with the application process, as Hannah Shaw, Leisure Spa Manager testifies: "Last year was the first year Cornwall Tourism Awards had a category for Spa and Wellbeing, and therefore my first time applying for the award. I can't thank the Islands' Partnership enough firstly for their encouragement to apply and also their huge support throughout the whole process."
