The Islands’ Partnership is once again coordinating an islands-wide Spring clean of all Scilly’s major beaches in readiness for the new season. Residents and businesses are being encouraged to “pick up a bag and make a difference” during the second Great Scilly Spring Clean taking place on Saturday 28th March and Sunday 29th March.
“The Great Scilly Spring Clean began last year as a joint campaign by Scilly’s major stakeholders in response to the need to clean up the islands following the severe winter storms of 2013/2014,” says Amanda Pender, Tourism Coordinator. “This year, we are delighted that Isles of Scilly Travel is also getting involved alongside the Islands’ Partnership, The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust, Council of the Isles of Scilly, Duchy of Cornwall and Tresco Island. The Great Scilly Beach Clean is all about making sure that our beautiful islands live up to visitors’ expectations as an outstanding tourism destination. What better way than to ensure our beaches are pristine for the start of the season?”

The Islands’ Partnership has been awarded a two-year contract from the Council of the Isles of Scilly to run Scilly’s on-island visitor information service following a formal tender process. The contract will start on 1st April 2015.
As the official Destination Management Organisation for the Isles of Scilly, we are uniquely placed to take on the delivery of the visitor information service. The appointment follows the recommendations made in the Future of Tourism on Scilly report in 2011. We already work closely with the current Tourism Information Centre, sharing knowledge, marketing materials and social media channels, so its adoption of the service is a natural extension of this collaboration.

If you’re passionate and knowledgeable about Scilly, articulate and friendly, then the Islands’ Partnership would like to hear from you! We’re seeking to recruit a number of volunteer Ambassadors to support Scilly’s Cruise Ship “Meet & Greet” Programme. You will work with the core IP team to welcome passengers to Scilly both onboard visiting cruise ships and provide on shore support, as necessary, for passengers disembarking at St. Mary’s Quay.
With 46 cruise ships and 17,000 passengers expected this season, Ambassadors would need to be available on both weekdays and occasional weekends between 8th April and 19th September. Once recruited, the volunteers can select the days and dates that suit them best.
“We’re looking for Ambassadors who are knowledgeable and well versed in a range of subject areas such as life on Scilly, walking routes, and information relating to local businesses,” says Amanda Pender, IP Tourism Coordinator who is leading the recruitment drive. “But above all, they need to appreciate the importance of the visitor experience and be an enthusiastic advocate for Scilly.
